Preston Denby ranks as one of the great
shooters in Lafayette hoops history and helped the
1965 baseball team to an NCAA District 2 title.
He led the basketball squad in scoring in each of his
three seasons at Lafayette, averaging 17.1 points
and 8.9 rebounds per game over his career. Denby
was the eighth player in school history to pass the
1,000 career points mark, finishing with 1,095. He
earned Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Conference
(MAC) honors in 1964, the same season he received
All-East laurels from the Eastern College Athletic
Conference. He captained Coach George Davidson's
hoop squad in his senior year and led the team in
scoring and rebounding.
Denby also pitched three seasons for Coach
Charley Gelbert's baseball team including 1965
when he compiled a 4-3 record with a career-low
2.84 earned run average. The Leopards finished 18-8
in `65, won the MAC title and advanced to the
College World Series.
