Ed Fager, an ace on the Lafayette pitching
staff from 1911 through 1913, won more than 25
games in his college career while establishing
himself as possibly the Leopards' best strikeout
pitcher of all time.

Twice he fanned 20 batters in a nine inning game, a school record that still
stands. His no-hit, no-run performance in a 10-0
win over Stevens Institute as a senior is only one
of many pitching gems for this Harrisburg, PA
native. His 10-9 decision against Pennsylvania in
his final appearance is "perhaps the most
remarkable game every played on March Field,"
wrote D.L. Reeves of Easton. "No more spectacular
climax could have been staged." Fager came to bat
in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and ripped
a base hit that scored the winning run from second
base. "Fager was carried off the field amid the tolling
of the bell on Old South College," Reeves continued.
The hard-throwing right-hander averaged more than
eight strikeouts a game over his career and struck out
10 or more men at least nine times.
