Walt Manuel found success on both the basketball
court and the baseball diamond for the Leopards. On
the basketball floor, Manuel progressed in each season
for head coach George Davidson, also a Lafayette College
Hall-of-Fame member. As a sophomore, Manuel appeared
in all but one game, scoring 5.6 points a game and over
four rebounds per outing.

His offense improved slightly as
a junior, sinking 5.9 points per game as the team's "sixth
man." More was expected of Manuel as a senior, and the co-
captain produced, scoring 11.8 points per game while
pulling down 6.5 rebounds a contest, good for second on the
team. However, his finest success came in the spring with the
baseball unit. While starting all 20 games at shortstop as a
sophomore, he topped the squad with a .347 batting average.
Although his batting average dipped in his junior campaign,
he paced the team in home runs, doubles, triples and total bases
while leading the team to an 18-8 mark, 6-2 in the Middle
Atlantic Conference. The Leopards won the league that spring
and advanced all the way to the College World Series.
