Maureen McKenna left College Hill as the
all-time leading scorer in Women's Basketball
history. Although that distinction has since been
surpassed, she was the first player to eclipse the
1,000 point barrier, tallying 1,074 points over
four seasons. McKenna also finished her career
with single-season school standards for most
points, most field goals made and most field
goals attempted (all later eclipsed) all results of
her final winter at Lafayette.
After her senior
campaign, McKenna was the recipient of the
"Best Female Athlete" trophy. In addition, she
was voted the team's MVP and the
"Outstanding Offensive Player" while serving
as team captain. McKenna was an immediate
force for coaches Barb Young and Pat Fisher,
earning the starting point guard role in her
rookie season. Not just known as a scorer,
McKenna led the 1982-83 team in assists and
steals, as well as points. McKenna was also a
standout for Coach Fisher on the softball filed,
captaining the team in her senior spring.
