Philip Ness made a tremendous impact
on the Lafayette basketball program in the
mid-70's. He is still the most accurate shooter
in the College's history, hitting a remarkable
59.4% of his shots for his career and 61.7%
during his senior season. As a senior, Ness
made the transition to center after three years
at forward and led the Leopards to a 23-8
season against one of the toughest schedules
in Lafayette history.
Ness is currently third
on the all-time scoring list with 1,634 career
points. The basketball team won four
consecutive East Coast Conference West titles
and had a cumulative record of 85-27 (.759)
with Ness as the driving force. Twice he was
named first-team All-East Coast Conference.
In 1975, he led the Leopards to an appearance
in the National Invitation Tournament.
