Bob Paul's contribution to Lafayette
athletics goes beyond his outstanding
performances on the soccer field. As captain
of the 1922 Leopard soccer team, Paul was
named to the first-team All-Pennsylvania
and All-America squads, allowing just three
goals during the entire season.
After graduation, Paul played for the Germantown
Cricket Club soccer team for one season,
allowing just one goal in 10 games. He
attracted the attention of the Philadelphia
Professional Soccer Club, and in 1925, he
became the first college player in the country
to play in the major American Soccer League.
When he came to Lafayette in the fall of 1918,
he became the correspondent at the College
for Lafayette sports for newspapers in three
metropolitan cities, earning as much as $500
a month for his services.
