David Pletcher '78 pinned more wrestling
opponents in his four-year career than anyone
in the history of the sport at Lafayette College.
Thirty-six of his 69 career wins came via fall and
his overall record of 69-18-4 set a school standard
for wins at the time.
As a junior and senior, this
strong-armed heavyweight won the East Coast
Conference title and competed in the NCAA
Division I Championships. He placed in every
regular season tournament in which he was entered
during his career. Because of his many pins, Pletcher
was usually the leader in team points scored. As a
junior, Pletcher had 11 pins, including a string of
seven in a row. He again had 11 pins as a senior when
he set a school record by scoring 83 team points.
