John Quigg was one of the key players
on the powerful Leopards' football teams of the
late 1930's. Considered to be one of the best
centers in Lafayette history, he was a starter on
the 1937 championship eleven and on the `38
and '39 teams. He received All-American
mention for his gridiron exploits.

"Hook" Mylin considered Quigg to be "the best
center he ever coached." Quigg also earned three
letters in varsity wrestling for Lafayette. After
graduating, Quigg became the first Maroon
gridder to participate in an Eastern Collegiate All-
Star football game, competing against the New
York Giants of the NFL. He signed a professional
football contract with Boston of the American
Football League, but chose a teaching and coaching
position at Tenafly, NJ, High School.
