D. Leroy Reeves, a graduate manager of
athletics at Lafayette form 1921 through 1946,
was the driving force behind the development
of intercollegiate and intramural athletics at
the College.
It was Reeves' direction, according
to one early newspaper account, which "helped
lay the foundation of the well-balanced athletic
program now in progress at the College...and it
was shortly after he took the college post that
Lafayette enjoyed its most successful period
in major sports." He was largely responsible for
the expansion of the athletic plant at the
institution, with the construction of Alumni
Memorial Gymnasium and Fisher Field shortly
after he began his tenure. During Reeves' 25 years
as an athletic administrator, Lafayette produced
four undefeated football teams.
