What advice would you give someone looking to apply to Lafayette?
I think you would love it here! Be confident in expressing yourself and your abilities to our admissions people and the coaching staff. Advocate for yourself because no one knows what you are capable of more than you do! This school is full of very intelligent, driven, talented people which can, at times, be intimidating. However, know that Lafayette is an extremely welcoming community and the people here will push you to be better.

What are you involved in outside of track and field?
Outside of track anf field, something I am passionate about is Best Buddies, the International nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-on-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). I have been working with individuals with IDD since a very young age, starting with one child I met through my volunteer position at the church nursery. I found that I had a special ability to get along with and care for this child and so sought out other opportunities to work with people with IDD. I also started volunteering at Jill’s House, a respite home for children with special needs and also joined Best Buddies at my high school. In college, I continued this commitment by working with Best Buddies and now work as an aide to an adult with IDD. In addition to the normal club meetings, this involves me taking my buddy to the playground (he loves the swings), McDonalds (his favorite restaurant), Lafayette basketball games, Klein Farms, etc.

What has been your favorite moment while competing for Lafayette?
My favorite moment while competing for Lafayette was when I ran the 10K at the Patriot League Championships my sophomore year. It was my first time running in the event, so I was extremely nervous (and I think Coach Mike was too!). The 10K usually takes place in the morning before everyone else comes to the meet but due to the rain and cold weather they pushed it back a few hours. By the time I got up to the line all of my teammates were in the stands cheering for me as loudly as they possibly could. In an almost 40-minute race, my teammates, parents, and coaches cheered for me and talked me through every lap. When I finished and my legs practically didn’t work anymore, Coach Mike ran over to give me a hug with my teammates following closely behind. I exceeded anyone’s expectations that day by scoring (seventh place) in the event and securing a spot-on Lafayette’s All-Time List. While I am proud of these achievements, what I will truly never forget was the support of my team in that moment.
