Biography

Jarrod Rottau '10, a former Lafayette fencing assistant coach who was also a team captain as an undergrad, enters his second season as head coach.

"We are excited to welcome Jarrod Rottau back to Lafayette as our new head fencing coach," Director of Athletics Bruce McCutcheon said. "Coach Rottau brings over 10 years of fencing and coaching experience to Lafayette, as well as his unique perspective as an alum. We look forward to working with him as we move our fencing program forward."

Rottau previously served as the team's primary assistant coach from September 2011 through May 2014, leading daily practices and attending NCAA, MACFA and NIWIFA meets throughout the year. He replaces Helen Davis, who resigned earlier in the summer.

"I'd like to thank George Bright and the rest of the Lafayette athletics staff for reaching out to me with this opportunity," Rottau said. "I'm greatly looking forward to applying my experiences as a former Lafayette fencer and assistant coach to further improve the team. Every year the team gets stronger, and I refuse to let this year be an exception."

A four-year fencing participant as a student-athlete for the Leopards, Rottau was the team's foil squad captain from 2007-09 and he qualified for NCAA Regionals in 2006-07 and 2008-09. He has competed in several national tournaments, and he reached the New Jersey State Championships on back-to-back occasions as a member of Seneca High School.

Outside of his fencing responsibilities, Rottau works full-time as a chemical engineer for the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), headquartered at the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. Rottau graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
