Jop Beuger

Jop Beuger enters his third season as an assistant coach of the Maroon and White during the 2025-26 academic year, after first joining the program for the 2023-24 season. He specializes in training, management, data analysis and data science

Field hockey had a historic season in fall 2024, completing a 14-7 (5-1 PL) record. Beuger helped lead the program to a first-round Division I NCAA playoff berth after securing the Leopards’ first Patriot League Championship since 2012. For the title on Nov. 9, Lafayette defeated American, 2-1, in overtime thanks to efforts from the program’s first ever First Team All-American, Tournament MVP and Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Lineke Spaans. The No. 21 Leopards chased down milestones such as Jennifer Stone’s 100th career victory at the helm (5-0 against Boston U. on Oct. 25), a league-high six All-Patriot League honorees, four All-Mideast Region selections and nine players of the week. Academically, the team, which included two NFHCA Scholars of Distinction, two All-Academic Patriot League athletes and 13 National Academic squad members, posted a conference-high 24 players on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and was titled a National Academic Team by the NFHCA for its 3.53 grade-point average.

To kick off the 2023 slate, Lafayette earned two Preseason All-Patriot League selections in juniors India Ralph and Lineke Spaans. The program finished with a 12-7 overall record (5-1 PL), making its way to the conference tournament final. The No. 2 Leopards bested No. 3 Boston U., 3-2, in overtime before falling to top-seeded American, 1-0, on Nov. 4. In total, Lafayette collected a league-high four All-Region laurels and five All-Patriot League players, one All-American, seven NFHCA DI National Academic honors and two Academic All-Patriot League members.

Before College Hill, Beuger had been active in the Netherlands as head coach, assistant coach and performance analyst at HC Den Bosch, the premier field hockey club for his home country. As a head coach of the Boys U16 team, he became a runner-up for the National Indoor Hockey title (2023), the final eight for the National Field Hockey title (2023) and an Indoor State champion (2020). As performance analyst, he qualified with the men's first XI for the National Final Four play-offs (2022) and the EHL (2021). He is a drag flick specialist working with Maartje Paumen at the Maartje Paumen Sleep Academie to help improve national and international players' penalty corners.

As a player, Beuger spent the majority of his youth at Were Di Tilburg in the Subtop Division before moving to the Seniors in Australia for two seasons at Toorak East Malvern in the Vic League 1. He played for the Were Di Tilburg reserves in the Hoofdklasse during his final three years. 

Additionally, Beuger’s data-driven approach has given him the opportunity to work in other sports. He served as the Head of Data and Technology for the professional soccer program of ADO Den Haag in The Hague, Netherlands. He also worked for six years with the Dutch National Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team as a Performance Analyst and Operations manager; this team secured two European (2013, 2017) and one World title (2018) during his employment. 

After earning his Bachelor's degree in International Business Administration from Tilburg University (with an added a minor in Entrepreneurship at the University of Central Florida) in 2018, he graduated with his Master's of Science majoring in Data Science at the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science in Hertogenbosch in 2022.

Alongside his formal education, Beuger holds a coaching level 3 for both Field Hockey (2017) and Sailing (2013). He is a native Dutch speaker with level C2 English proficiency.
