Why did you choose Lafayette?
I chose Lafayette because of the supportive nature of the community and how thoughtful everyone was on campus. During my tour and revisit day, everyone was very welcoming and willing to help if I was lost or confused about something. It was amazing to see how people who knew me for less than a day would accept me and treat me like I belonged in their environment. Even the teachers included me in the lessons and made sure I knew what was going on. During the days I came to visit, I could tell that this sense of helping and including others was something that was really ingrained into the Lafayette community. It wasn't just a few people going out of their way to interact with me, but everyone checked in on me, helped me navigate new areas, and told me that I could reach out anytime with questions or just to chat. Even over the summer, new people would continue to reach out, say hello, and let me know that they were there for me during this transition into college. This is exactly the type of atmosphere I wanted to be a part of for college. It is very helpful to have such a kind community, one that looks out for all the students, especially when making the big changes that come with the beginning of college. I remember during my revisit day, I went to visit the track team and everyone stopped their warm-up to wave to me. It was one of the best welcomes and I could tell just by that moment that this school and track team were the right place for me. No other school I visited had the same type of community and genuine caring as I saw from the students and faculty at Lafayette. I felt a very strong sense of home every time I was on the Lafayette campus. I knew that I would be happy and comfortable spending my next four years at Lafayette.
What is your favorite event in track? Why?
My favorite events are the jumps. Long jump and triple jump have always been my favorites. I love the feeling of running down the runway and preparing for take-off. I love soaring through the air during long jump and feeling my foot hit the ground on each phase in triple. Additionally, I love that there are three chances to receive marks for each event. It makes me focus on improvement at the moment and reflect on what I can correct for the next two jumps.
