2020-21: Lafayette Open 1500 meter 4:51.98...Bucknell Quad 5000 meter 17:24.72...PL Champs 3000 Steplechase 11:12.76.
2019-20: Placed third in the mile at the Bison Open...finished 10th in the 800 at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational...took 14th in the 3000M at the UAlbany Winter Classic...finished 18th in the 3000M at the Patriot League Indoor Championships...outdoor season was cut short due to COVID-19.
At ConVal: Qualified for nationals in the 3200M...won the 1000M and the 3200M at the 2019 NHIAA District 2 State Championships...two-time indoor New England qualifier...two-time outdoor New England qualifier.
Personal: Daughter of James and Emily Hurley...has a sister Sarah.
What are your plans after Lafayette?
Pursue a PhD in Environmental Engineering, then a Postdoc and teach at the university level.
What are you involved in outside of track and field?
Most Rachel’s involvement is related to engineering and academic research. She is the President of the Engineering Student Council where she meets with the Engineering Director and Council of Departments Heads. Her activities are related to planning department events, building a peer mentorship program, increasing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and helping to improve the engineering division for students. She is also the Co-President of the Integrative Engineering Student group, on the Event Planning Board of the Grossman House for Global Perspectives and a member of the Oaks Leadership Academy. She also dedicates much of her time to research with WPI, where she is a research assistant under the Architectural Engineering Department.
What is your favorite event in track? Why?
Cross Country because of the change of scenery, terrain, and the fact that everyone is doing the same event. It also requires a different type of skill and grit that track does, as the conditions of the field come more into play and is less time focused that track races.
