Dan Cason is in his first year as Assistant Athletic Director for Advancement, working alongside Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement Joe Samaritano '91 in the athletic fundraising realm.Â
Prior to his arrival on College Hill Cason served as the assistant athletic director for external relations at Dartmouth College. In his role, he developed and managed activities for the department, including alumni and donor events and communications, as well as marketing and promotional initiatives. Cason was also instrumental in the growth of the College's annual giving program, which set a new record of more than $8 million in donations in 2023.
Cason formerly worked as Dartmouth's marketing coordinator from 2021-22, and was tasked with creating and executing marketing plans for its 35 varsity sports. That fall, Dartmouth's football program reached its second-highest revenue generating football season in sales and the program's best season in terms of student attendance.
His first stop in the Ivy League came in 2020 at Yale where he served as its fan engagement assistant for six months. His responsibilities included handling script writing, promotions and in-game promotions for home games, as well as creating initiatives and events involving community organizations.
In 2014 Cason graduated from fellow Patriot League school, Colgate, with a bachelor's degree in history. He was also a four-year standout wide receiver, finishing in the Raiders' top 10 all-time career receptions and yards. After graduation, he worked as an associate producer for the MLB and NHL networks. During his four years there, he was named a two-time Emmy Award winning associate producer for "Outstanding Daily Studio Show,"Â MLB Tonight.
Cason obtained his master's degree in sports management in 2020 at East Stroudsburg University after his stint in professional sports. As he pursued his degree, he held two graduate assistantships, one in the sports information department and the other as an assistant coach on the football team. He is slated to begin his new role in September.
