Matt Bayly is in his 34th season as part of the Lafayette sports medicine team. As the Associate Director of Athletic for Holistic and Performance/Director of Sports Medicine, he is responsible for overseeing the operation of the sports medicine offices and monitors all clearance concerns for student-athletes. He also coordinates care and coverage scheduling of athletic practices and competitions, while serving as an Athletic Trainer for football and Golf.

While with the Leopards, Bayly has served as both a lecturer at East Stroudsburg University and clinical instructor for health science students attending ESU, Quinnipiac, Montclair, and Moravian physical therapy and athletic training programs. His other teaching experience includes acting as a physical education symposium instructor at Lafayette; serving on the faculty of the International Academy of Sports Vision; in addition to symposium presentations at the local, regional, and national level. Bayly is currently serves on faculty with Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Sports Medicine Fellowship program.

In 2020-21, Bayly was instrumental in shaping Lafayette Athletics' health and safety protocols for COVID-19, helping to mitigate risks posed by the virus while also working to ensure a safe return tocompetition for Leopard student-athletes and coaches. During that time span, Bayly and his staff’s commitment to the Lafayette community were simultaneously at the forefront of the college’s testing, treatment, and contact tracing parameters.

Before joining Lafayette, Bayly served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Virginia Military Institute from 1990-91 and as an athletic trainer at Columbia High School from 1989-90. He also spent a year in Italy as the head athletic trainer for the Padova Saints American Football Team.

Along with his college experience, Bayly has worked numerous camps, including the Adidas Elite Soccer Program at Lafayette, football camps at Santa Clara and Fairfield and the SVS Hockey Camp at Brown. Bayly received his NATA certification in 1990 and is working toward his credential for the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy for the Spine. He is also certified in Advanced First Aid and CPR as well as lifeguarding.

Bayly is a member of several organizations, including the International Academy of Sports Vision, the NATA and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainer's Society. He also is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, a Catholic Irish-American Fraternal Organization that sponsors numerous programs associated with promoting the Irish heritage.

A native of Albany, N.Y., Bayly received his bachelor of science degree in Athletic Training and Physical Education from Springfield College in 1989. He earned his master's degree in Sports Medicine from Virginia in 1991.

In 1994, he was honored at Lafayette's prestigious Aaron O. Hoff Awards ceremony with an Unsung Hero Award, a student-voted accolade. In 2017, Bayly was recognized with the Maroon Club Staff Achievement award- the award being the highest honor the Maroon Club can bestow upon an athletics staff member. Matt’s service contributions to Lafayette College were again recognized with a second Maroon Club Staff achievement award in 2021.

Bayly resides in Forks Township with daughters Brianna (’21) and Moira (’23), and son Jack (’26).
