Lafayette Volleyball Falls at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team returned to Patriot League competition after facing Ivy Leaguer Penn earlier in the week, but walked away with a 3-0 loss (6-15, 4-15, 9-15) at Holy Cross on Friday.

The Leopards (1-10, 0-7 Patriot League) looked to freshman Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) to come up big on defense and add to the attack, and she did just that finishing with five kills to go along with her team-high 11 digs. Senior outside hitter Michelle Calvo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) recorded seven kills and seven digs while fellow classmate and co-captain Melissa Ommundsen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) handed out 17 assists, six digs and a service ace.

The Crusaders (10-12, 4-3) were led by a pair of sophomores in outside hitter Clarissa Bennett, who had 15 kills, nine digs and a block, and setter Jessica Ostlund who registered 34 assists and seven digs.

Lafayette continues its Patriot League slate with a match on Saturday at Army.
