Oct. 23, 2000

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette senior defensive back Elijah Beamon (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Leopards' 28-13 upset victory over Holy Cross this past Saturday.

The economics and business major spearheaded a Lafayette (2-5, 1-2 Patriot League) defense which limited Holy Cross (4-3, 1-1 Patriot League) to just 78 yards on 44 plays in a scoreless first half. Beamon recorded nine total tackles (eight solo), including one for loss, three pass deflections, and had an interception with a 22-yard return.

A two-time All-Patriot League defensive back, Beamon led the conference last season in interceptions (6) and pass deflections (25).

Through seven games of the 2000 season, Beamon is fourth on the team and 20th in the league in total tackles (40), and leads the squad and is third in the conference in pass deflections (10).

Playing its 119th season of college football, Lafayette hits the road for the first of three straight road games by travelling to Colgate this Saturday, Oct. 28, for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
