EASTON, Pa. - The Leopard volleyball team continued its Patriot League play with a match against Navy on Friday but fell to the Midshipmen, 3-0 (3-15, 3-15, 18-20). Lafayette (1-22, 0-9 Patriot League) entered the match coming off a 3-0 loss at Army last Saturday.
Senior co-captain and outside hitter Michelle Calvo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and Melissa Daly (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) led the Lafayette attack with five kills each. Calvo also recorded 10 digs on the defensive end for Lafayette. Senior setter and co-captain Melissa Ommundsen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) finished with 13 assists in the Leopard loss.
Lafayette made a strong run in the third set, narrowing their 5-14 deficit to 15-15. Freshman outside hitter Maria Kinzel (Caldwell, N.J./Caldwell) started the run by serving up two consecutive aces, recording a total of three aces for the game.
Navy (11-13, 4-5 Patriot League) was led on offense by Erica McElroy with 12 kills and Jessica Van Norman with 22 assists.
Lafayette hits the road on Wednesday for a non-league match at Iona.
