HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) - Russ Abrams kicked a 40-yard field goal Saturday to lift Colgate to a 17-14 win over Lafayette. The Leopards bid for an upset of the defending Patriot League Champions fell short when Colgate intercepted a pass in the Red Raiders' end zone with 33 seconds to play.

Colgate (6-2, 3-0 Patriot League) opened the scoring when Ryan Ojeda rushed for 30 yards on a reverse and scored at 6:47 in the first quarter. Randall Joseph scored on a 63-yard run in the third quarter, to give Colgate a 14-7 lead.

Marko Glavic tied it for Lafayette (2-6, 1-3 Patriot League) on a 1-yard run with a minute left in the third. Scott Warden recorded his first career 100-yard game, as he rushed for 101 yards and scored on a 3-yard run in the second period.

Colgate had 253 yards of total offense to Lafayette's 228 yards. There were seven turnovers.

Lafayette's Phil Yarberough, playing for the second straight game with a torn ligament in his left elbow, caught five passes for 74 yards to move into second place all-time in Lafayette history in both career receptions (139) and receiving yards (1,974). He needs 14 receptions and 138 yards to become Lafayette's all-time leading receiver.
