EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Leopard volleyball team dropped a home Patriot League match against Lehigh Wednesday, 3-0 (15-2, 15-3, 15-1), as they played with an undermanned squad against the league leading Mountain Hawks.
Senior outside hitter and co-captain Michelle Calvo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) stepped up and took over the starting setter position for fellow co-captain Melissa Ommundsen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) who did not dress for the match due to injury. Also a spectator for Lafayette (1-15, 0-3 Patriot League) was Sara Deitsch (Norwood, N.J./Old Tappan), the team's other setter, who has missed the last three matches due to a concussion.
Senior Melissa Daly (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) played a big part on the Leopard defense, recording nine digs to go along with her service ace and three kills on offense.
Leading the Lehigh (9-8, 3-0 Patriot League) attack was Rochelle Healea, who notched 11 kills and four service aces. Setter Kira Bosack added 25 assists in the Mountain Hawk victory.
The Leopards hit the road to Anapolis, Md., on Friday for their fourth consecutive Patriot League match. The match against Navy (6-10, 0-2 Patriot League) is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
