Lafayette Volleyball Falls Against Bucknell

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team took on the Patriot League-leading Bucknell Bison on Friday, but was overcome on its home floor as the Leopards lost 3-0 (2-15, 6-15, 3-15).

Lafayette (1-24, 0-10) was led offensively by senior outside hitter and co-captain Michelle Calvo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) who recorded 13 kills and two service aces on the night. Fellow co-captain Melissa Ommundsen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was also busy handing out 20 assists on the Leopard attack. Calvo also led on the defensive front, coming up with seven digs.

Bucknell (14-13, 9-1 Patriot League) came one step closer to clinching the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament with the win behind the offense of Jennifer Wrigley. Whitney Williams had a career night on offense as the junior setter recorded 25 assists to put her season assist total at 973, breaking Bucknell's previous season-high of 957.

Lafayette wraps up its home season on Saturday with a Patriot League match against Colgate at 7 p.m. Prior to the match, Lafayette seniors Michelle Calvo, Melissa Daly and Melissa Ommundsen will be honored as they play the last match of their careers at Allan P. Kirby Sports Center.
