Lafayette sails past Navy

EASTON, PA - Lafayette's Stefan Ciosici dumped in a season high 23 points and led four in double figures as the Leopards defeated the visiting Midshipmen of Navy in a up-and-down battle, 80-74.

Lafayette's only lead in the first half was at 2-0, and the hosts trailed by as much as 12 in the first stanza, but pulled to within six points on Ciosici's layup with one second on the clock, part of his 14 point first half.

The Leopards opened the second half with a 10-2 run that tied the game at 44 apiece. What followed was an epic battle in which the lead changed six times, including six ties.

With the game tied at 72, Brian Ehlers made two free throws and sank a off-balance jumper to pull ahead 76-72. After a jump shot by Chris Williams, who led the Mids with 21 points, Tim Bieg iced the game for Lafayette by making four free throws.

The Midshipmen were led by Williams' 21 points, followed by Sitapha Savane with 16 points and Reggie Skipworth with 12, respectively. Scoring in double figures for the Leopards were Brian Burke with 14, Brian Ehlers with 13, and Frank Barr added 10.

The win pushes Lafayette to 9-5 on the season, 1-0 in Patriot League play. Navy drops to 10-5, 1-1 in league play.

The Leopards return to action Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Holy Cross. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
