EASTON, PA - Visiting Delaware Valley hung tough through the first half, trailing by only six at half-time, but host Lafayette College was too much for the Aggies, as Lafayette pulled
away in the second half for a 76-58 win.
The Leopards' Nate Klinkhammer took a charge 42 seconds into the second half, and Tyson Whitfield sandwiched two of his five three-pointers on the day around a Tim Bieg layup and
free throw, which gave Lafayette a commanding 44-30 lead. Delaware Valley got no closer than 14 after that. Lafayette drained five straight three-pointers to push the lead to 59-34, and
then the Leopards bench took over.
The Aggies managed to pull within 14 with just over three minutes remaining, but couldn't come any closer than that. Top performers for the visitors were Tyree Jones with 17 points and Tom
Kochanski with 10, respectively.
Lafayette was led by Bieg, who scored 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting, while snagging five steals. Whitfield and Brian Ehlers both hit for 15 points.
The Leopards upped their record to 7-4 on the season, and look ahead to Princeton on Saturday, Jan. 8. Delaware Valley falls to 5-6.
