Lafayette Beats Army 69-43

Feb. 16, 2000

Box Score

EASTON, PA - Neither team scored until 16:45 of the first half, until Army's Mike Canty hit a three-pointer. As if it enraged Lafayette, the Leopards went on a 27-7 run that gave them a 17-point lead. They never looked back, en route to a 69-43 Patriot League win.

The Leopards held Army to just 22 percent shooting in the first half and 30 percent for the game, as they held the Knights to just 14 points in the first stanza. In contrast, Lafayette shot 43 percent for the game, and Brian Ehlers led all scorers with 12 points, including three Leopards in double-figures. Chris Spatola led Army with 11 points.

Lafayette led 20 points at half-time, and Army never came closer than 19 points in the second half. Lafayette's defense forced 27 Army turnovers, and the Leopards tossed it away just 15 times. Tim Bieg and Stefan Ciosici had 11 and 10 points, respectively, with playing time cut down due to the large lead. A variety of second-stringers played much of the second half, and Greg McCleary performed admirably, hitting two of three shots, including a three-pointer, for five points.

Lafayette improves to 18-6 overall and 8-1 in the Patriot League. They return to action this Saturday, Feb. 19 as they face cross-town rival Lehigh at Stabler Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m.
