EASTON, PA - Lafayette College freshman placekicker Martin
Brecht (Jeannette, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) was named
Patriot League Rookie of the Week today for his clutch performance
in the Leopards' 20-10 victory over Dartmouth this past Saturday.
Lafayette's starting placekicker the entire season, Brecht finally got
the nod to attempt a field goal vs. Dartmouth late in the third quarter
with the Leopards trailing 10-7. He calmly converted the 27-yard
attempt to tie the game. Early in the fourth quarter, he was called on
again. This time, he nailed a 32-yarder for the go-ahead score.
Brecht also converted both of his PAT attempts, raising his season
total to seven-of-nine.
Lafayette, now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League, remains in
the friendly confines of Fisher Field this Saturday to host Colgate at
1:30 p.m.
