Sept. 7, 1999
The Lafayette College football team has named
seniors John Fistner (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), Jim Goff
(Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) and Chad Williamson (Washington,
PA/Trinity) its 1999 team captains as selected by the players.
"It's my feeling that these players were chosen as team captains
because of how they play on the field and how they handle
themselves off the field," said Leopards' Head Coach Bill Russo, the
"Dean" of Patriot League football coaches entering his 19th season at
Lafayette. "Being chosen captain is not a popularity contest. It's a
sign of respect from your teammates."
A starter at outside linebacker in all 11 games last season, Fistner
was second on the team and eighth in the Patriot League in total
tackles (105). He also finished second on the squad with 19 tackles
for loss and 6.0 sacks.
A three-year letterwinner and former All-Patriot League performer, Goff
has been a mainstay on the Leopards' offensive line and returns this
season for his fourth year of eligibility. A starter in 22 games at
Lafayette, he helped clear the way for Leonard Moore '99 to record a
1,000-yard rushing campaign last season.
A hard-nosed defensive tackle, Williamson is a three-year letterwinner
who finished 11th on the team in total tackles (44) last season.
Forced to miss three games in 1998 with bruised ribs, he still
recorded eight tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Lafayette begins its 118th season of college football this Saturday,
September 11, when it travels to Towson University for the season
and Patriot League opener.
