The Lafayette College football team has cancelled
its morning practice this Thursday, August 26, to assist the College's
incoming freshmen as they move into their residence halls. The
entire team and coaching staff will be providing assistance from 7:00
a.m. to noon.
The idea, fostered by Lafayette's Office of Student Residence, was
brought forward to the coaching staff by senior flanker Joe Luke
(Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg). Luke, who served as president of the
College's Sports Council last lear, returns as the school's eighth
all-time leading receiver.
"The basic idea is to show new students that there are many people
at Lafayette who care and are willing to help them out," said Luke.
"The fact that it will be assistance from the athletic department,
specifically the football program, can only foster positive
relationships for the future."
Currently in its two-a-day preseason practice schedule, the
Leopards' football program will resume its practices at 3:15 p.m. on
August 26.
Lafayette begins its 118th season of college football on September
11, when it travels to Towson University for the season and Patriot
League opener.
