Men's Lacrosse Downs Stony Brook, 7-6

March 29, 2000

STONY BROOK, NY - Ben Haaz (Flowertown, PA/Germantown Academy) and Kevin Bromby Ipswich, MA/Governor Dummer) scored fourth quarter goals to snap a 5-5 tie, and Lafayette held off a late Stony Brook rally to post a 7-6 win at Seawolves Field on Wednesday.

The win snapped a four-game losing skid for Lafayette, as it improved to 2-4 on the season, while Stony Brook remains winless at 0-6.

With the scored tied at 3-3 at halftime, the Leopards broke the deadlock on a rare goal by goaltender Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, CT/St. George's). Woodard scooped up the ball in his own end and raced the length of the field, whipping a shot past Stony Brook's John Dobias to give Lafayette a 4-3 edge at 14:14.

Ted Blackburn (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) extended the Leopards' lead to 5-3 at 11:14 before Stony Brook scored a pair of goals to tie the game at 5-5 entering the fourth quarter. Haaz and Bromby tallied for Lafayette to put Lafayette up 7-5 with 8:52 remaining. Stony Brook answered five minutes later when Phil Archabald collected his second goal of the game to cut the final margin to one, 7-6.

Woodard made 10 stops in goal for Lafayette while Stony Brook's goalie Dobias stopped 20 shots.

Lafayette (2-4) returns to action on Saturday, when it travels to Colgate for a Patriot League matchup beginning at 2 p.m.
