FORKS TOWNSHIP, Pa. -
The pitching combination of Erin Hall (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and Whitney Cooper (Trumbull,
Conn.) allowed just seven hits and five earned runs, but Lafayette (6-18, 4-6 Patriot
League) scored just one run and committed four errors, allowing St. Peter's to take the second
game of a doubleheader, 10-1 in six innings.
The Leopards took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on Jana DeFillips' (Cedar Knolls,
N.J./Whippany Park) RBI groundout, but Lafayette quickly lost that lead as the visitors put up
a four spot in the top of the third. None of the four runs were earned, as the Leopards
committed one of their four errors in the inning.
St. Peter's never looked back, and they took a commanding 10-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning,
helped by first baseman Candace Winder's grand slam to centerfield. The Leopards couldn't respond
in the bottom half of the inning, ending the game early due to the eight run rule.
Hall went four complete innings, giving up just three hits and no earned runs, but picked up
the loss, dropping to 4-9 on the season. Gina Galati (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillian),
Becky Foley (Jamison, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Mara Shainheit (Mt. Holly, N.J./Ravicocas
Valley) all went 1-for-3 to lead the Leopards on offense.
Lafayette returns to action this weekend at Patriots Park in Allentown, Pa. in the Patriot
League Championship Tournament. The Leopards, the No. 3 seed, square off against Bucknell
in the first round on Friday at 1 p.m. The tournament continues through the weekend, with
the championship games being played on Sunday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., if necessary.
