Men's Lacrosse Grounds Hawks, 14-5

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette gave up the first goal of the game, but then rattled off 10 straight of its own en route to a 14-5 win over St. Joseph's in men's lacrosse action on Saturday. Junior Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass./Governor Dummer) led the way for the Leopards with four goals and four assists on the day to run his team-leading point total to 32 (21 goals, 11 assists).

Randy McNeill got the Hawks on the scoreboard first with his goal at 12:57 in the first quarter off an assist from Corey Comen. Lafayette responded with 10 straight goals over the remainder of the first quarter and into the third quarter. The Leopards' first three goals were unassisted scores from juniors Drew Stotler (Westfield, N,J,/Westfield) Kevin Angelis (Davidsonville, Md./Arch. Spalding) and Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School), coming at 10:44, 6:55 and 1:34 in the first. The Leopards tacked on two more goals, one by Bromby at 1:25 and the final by freshman Mike Fiorillo (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley) at :04 to give Lafayette a 5-1 lead at the end of the first.

Bromby and Angelis each scored two goals in the second quarter to go along with a lone score from Stotler to give Lafayette a 10-1 commanding lead at half time. Lafayette built its lead to 11-1 at 14:52 in the third, when Battle scored his third and final goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Brian Coldren (Kennett Square, Pa./Peddie School). The Hawks ended their scoring drought at 8:32 in the third when the Comen to McNeill combination again proved successful.

Each team scored three goals in the final quarter. Bromby netted his fourth and final goal at 9:33 and assisted on the Leopards' final two goals, scores by freshman Tim Derosier (Long Meadow, Mass./Long Meadow) at 5:17 and senior Ryan Kubie (Westport, Conn./Staples) at 2:31. The Hawks' final three goals were all unassisted tallies and scored by Drew Scott (14:51), Bert Whitelock (7:49) and Joe O'Donnell (3:35).

Junior Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn./St. George's) had 10 saves in 55 minutes for Lafayette. Jonathon Raley and Nick Leopard split the game in goal for St. Joe's each recording four saves.

Lafayette (4-5) will next host Lehigh at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Metzgar Fields, while St. Joseph's travels to play Marist on Monday.
