Volleyball Team Falls to La Salle

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team lost its home opener to La Salle Tuesday, 3-0 (15-4, 15-3, 15-4), at the Allan P. Kirby Sports Center. The match was the first chance for a home crowd to see new head coach Jeff Corpora, new assistant coach Rose Marie Bukics and the 2000 Leopards compete.

The Leopards (1-8) put up a hard fight but could not overcome the Explorers' .400 attack percentage for the match. Senior co-captain Michelle Calvo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) led the team with nine kills and 10 digs while classmate and fellow co-captain Melissa Ommundsen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was busy handing out 21 assists. Freshman Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Sacred Heart) also stepped into her own in front of the home crowd, notching seven kills.

La Salle (10-3) broke its three match losing streak with the win, led by freshman Robyn Wright's 13 kills and Molly Thatcher's 25 assists.

Lafayette travels to the University of Delaware for the Delaware/Asics Tournament Sept. 22-23. The Leopards first match of the event is at 5 p.m. against Liberty University.
