Volleyball Team Falls to LIU

- The Lafayette volleyball team traveled to New York this weekend to participate in the two-day, cohosted LIU/Columbia Fall Classic. The Leopards lost to the co-host Long Island 3-0 (15-10, 15-6, 15-0) in their first match of the day on Friday.

Seniors Michelle Calvo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and Melissa Daly (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) led the Lafayette attack, registering five kills a piece in the match. Calvo also registered four digs and Daly added seven more on the defensive end. Classmate Melissa Ommundsen (Northport, N.Y.) was busy on offense handing out 14 assists.

The Leopards, however, were overcome by the Blackbirds' 33 kills, led by sophomore outside hitter Trina Brook who recorded a .458 hitting percentage.

The two-day tournament is taking place on both the Long Island and Columbia campuses, with matches scheduled at both locations on Friday and Saturday.
