WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - After a scoreless first half, Holy Cross' Matt Ney scored a goal and assisted on the game winner to lead the hosts to a 2-0 Patriot League victory over Lafayette.
Holy Cross (6-4-1, 4-0-1 Patriot League) got on the board in the 58th minute when Patrick Montgomery passed a direct kick to a cutting Ney. Ney then centered the ball to Chris Napolitano who fired a shot past diving Lafayette keeper Jay Freedman (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow East) for the eventual game winner.
In the 87th minute, Ney sealed the victory for Holy Cross when he scored to make it a 2-0 lead.
Lafayette (7-4-2, 1-3 Patriot League) outshot the Crusaders 11-8, but Holy Cross keeper made five saves to pick up his third shut out of the season. Freedman made three saves for the Leopards.
The Leopards return to action this Wednesday, Oct. 24, when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to face Bucknell in a 2 p.m. contest.
