EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team dropped a league match to the Army Black Knights tonight in West Point, N.Y. Army improved to 9-9 overall and 6-4 in league play while the Leopards search for their first win of the season.
Army sprinted out of the gate in the first game, using a 17-1 run to open the scoring. The Black Knights used steady offensive pressure throughout the match to overpower the Leopards in three straight games.
Army was led by sophomore Jen Wynn who tallied a game-high 10 kills while Stacy Gervelis and Leah Shubin each posted eight. Senior setter Beth Bellinger had a strong match while dishing out 35 assists.
Lafayette freshman Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) led the Leopards with six kills and seven digs while Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) was close behind with five kills.
Lafayette setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Height, Ill./Buffalo Grove) passed for 15 assists in the loss.
Army hosts Lehigh Saturday, Oct. 27, in playing the second of a five-match homestand. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Lafayette (0-25, 0-10) continues on its weekend road trip as it takes on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
