WORCHESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Leopard volleyball squad continues to show improvement as they took a game from Patriot League foe Holy Cross tonight in Worcester.
Holy Cross opened the match by winning the first game 30-18. The young Leopard squad refused to quit as they bounced back to win the second game 30-24 by outshooting the Crusaders 18 kills to 11.
The Crusaders fought back to finish out the match by winning the third and fourth games 30-24 and 30-23.
Holy Cross was led by Carissa Bennett with 18 kills and nine digs and Katie Snell with 15 kills and seven digs.
Three Leopards combined for 37 kills on the night as Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) picked up 13 while Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) and Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) each tallied 12. Eshman had a strong defensive night, picking up a career-high 23 digs on the match.
Freshman setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Height, Ill./Buffalo Grove) also had a strong night dishing out a match-high 44 assists in the loss.
Holy Cross improved to 11-11 overall and 3-8 in league play.
Lafayette falls to 0-26 and 0-11 in Patriot League action and will travel to Kutztown for non-conference action on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
