EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team struggled with its timing as they fell to Rider, 3-0 in Kirby Sports Center tonight. The Broncs took the match in three straight games, 30-25, 30-18, 30-20.
The Leopards were led by freshman outside hitter Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) who knocked down 10 kills and seven digs.
Junior co-captain Sarah Deitsch (Forwood, N.J./Old Tappan) was solid in the back row, recording 10 digs for the match.
Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) was a force at the net for Lafayette and notched a match-high six block assists.
Setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) dished out 18 assists for a season total 254.
The Broncs were led by Evetty Hoeffner with 14 kills and 15 digs while Laura Berger tossed up 21 assists.
Rider improves to 8-7 on the year and will return home to Lawrenceville, N.J. to play host to Marist for its MAAC opener on Oct. 13 at 2:00.
Lafayette (0-16, 0-4) travel south to take on Navy on Friday and American on Saturday. Both match times are set for 7:00.
