KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team fell to in a close match to Kutztown tonight, 30-25, 30-27, 30-27. Kutztown improved to 18-11 overall while the Leopards fell to 0-27.
Lafayette was led by freshman Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) who racked up 13 kills and eight digs while classmate Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) hit for 11 kills and nine digs.
The Leopards were strong defensively, with three players reaching double digits in digs. Junior co-captain Sarah Dietsch (Norwood, N.J./Old Tappan) led the pack with 16 digs followed by Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) with 14 and freshman Lori DeVito (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) with 10.
Kutztown was led by two players who recorded double-doubles for the match as Allison Herman picked up 10 kills and 23 digs while Missy Klein hit for 10 kills and 12 digs.
Freshman setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) passed for 27 assists on the night to put her season total to 527.
Lafayette will look to bounce back for a pair of Patriot League matches this weekend as both American and Navy visit Kirby Sports Center. The Leopards play American on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Navy on Saturday at 7 p.m.
