COLUMBIA
Head Coach Ray Tellier on today's game:
We're not a man-to-man team. Lafayette threw and caught the ball very well. Our defensive backs froze on those 3 step drops, and the short pass became so effective. We need to get better breaks on the ball and make plays. Lafayette executed well and outplayed us in every aspect of the game.
I thought we moved the ball well, but we coughed it up or stalled at key points in our drives. Lafayette didn't make those mistakes.
When Lafayette ran it, they ran it effectively.
I thought we'd be in a tight football game, but Lafayette came out and outplayed us. You have two choices in losses like this, give up or go out and get to work so you can be ready to win next week. As coaches and players we have to get better each game right now we're obviously not a very good football team.
LAFAYETTE
Head Coach Frank Tavani on today's game:
I'm a lot happier to be in this situation. It's these men here and out there who hung in there. We talked about inspiration before game. Hopefully this will catapult us into league play. We're have one of the best teams coming in next week. Right now I couldn't be prouder of these young men and the college who stuck behind us. It's still a game of emotion and passion. Now what next week brings with Bucknell. We know we have to play great football next week.
Head Coach Frank Tavani on changes:
We made some changes last week...We realize our strengths lie in the passing game. John Reese is a really good back and I was worried about him until there was no time left.
Senior co-captain Barret Diefenderfer on the tackle/fumble recovery:
Guard just kind of pulled. I immediately saw the Quarterback passing off so I went for it and the ball was suddenly in my arms.
Senior QB Chad Ritchie on the 2-yard touchdown pass:
The play was designed to run first. The run wasn't there, but Kupfer did a good job coming back and I gave it to him. Tried to put a move on #5 and just at the last minute Stew came back so I gave it to him.
Senior TE Stewart Kupfer on the 2-yard touchdown pass:
I was coming back to the play and just managed to get it. It was a good performance by Chad.
Senior QB Chad Ritchie on his thoughts about the fake field goal:
We practiced the play yesterday and it went well. Coach said if it went well, great, if not, don't bother coming back to the sideline.
Sophomore WR John Weyrauch on pressure he felt replacing Andrew May:
I knew I needed to make some big plays. I just kept trying to take each play as it came.
Senior co-captain Barret Diefenderfer on what this game will do for the team:
I think it dispelled a lot of doubt. People who had some doubts could look around and say we definitely can play with anyone.
