WASHINGTON (AP) - Joe McCourt ran for a career high 184 yards and two touchdowns as Lafayette beat Georgetown 37-17 Saturday for its first Patriot League victory of the season.
Marko Glavic threw two touchdown passes for the Leopards (2-7, 1-5), who snapped a four-game losing streak in the first meeting between the teams since 1937.
Georgetown's (3-6, 0-5) Sean Peterson was 22-of-36 for 295 yards and threw two touchdown passes.
McCourt's 4-yard run capped off a 10-play, 79-yard drive on the game's opening possession. After Georgetown's Marc Samuel kicked a 23-yard field goal, the Leopards extended their lead to 14-3 on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Glavic to John Weyrauch with 3:12 left in the first quarter.
Peterson hit Luke McArdle on a 5-yard touchdown pass with 9:12 remaining in the first half, but the Leopards scored the next 23 points.
Lafayette's Scott Warden scored on an 8-yard run with 3:42 left in the first half, and Martin Brecht kicked a 24-yard field goal as the half expired for a 24-10 lead.
The Leopards got a 4-yard scoring pass from Glavic to Tim Walsh and an 8-yard touchdown run by McCourt in the third quarter to make it 37-10.
Ryan Franken caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Peterson with 2:25 left in the game.
Lafayette's defense recorded seven sacks and forced Georgetown into negative 24 yards rushing. Leading the charge was Casey McKeen with eight total tackles, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble.
