EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team fell to American in straight games tonight 30-16, 30-17 and 30-20 behind a powerful Eagle offense. The Eagles' offense was too strong as they racked up 43 kills to Lafayette's 18.
American's Natacha Cornaz set an Eagle school record for service aces in a match with 11 while her team shot for 23 aces on the night. Karla Kucerkova led all players with 10 kills while setter Courtney Mulford dished out 21 assists for the match.
Lafayette was led by freshman Hannah Briggs (Easton, Pa./Easton) tied a career-high seven kills while classmate Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) followed with five kills. Sophomore Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) picked up eight digs for the Leopards while Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) dug up six.
American (20-2, 12-0) will take a short trip to Bethlehem to face off with league foe Lehigh on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Lafayette (0-28, 0-12) host Navy in league action tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
