EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team gave Navy a tough win tonight as they hung with the Mids 30-20, 30-24 and 30-25 in a 3-0 loss for the Leopards. Navy improved to 10-14 overall and 6-7 in league play while Lafayette fell to 0-29 and 0-13 in the Patriot League.
Lafayette's offense was a team effort as four Leopards notched five or more kills led by Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) with eight and Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) with seven.
Defensively, co-captain Sarah Deitsch (Norwood, N.J./Old Tappan) led with 12 digs followed by freshman Lori DeVito (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) with 10.
Freshman setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Height, Ill./Buffalo Grove) passed for 20 assists on the night to bring her season total to 561.
Navy was led by Meredith Lane and Ashley Van Hartesvelt who shot for 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Setter Jessica Van Norman dished out 27 assists and was relieved by Natalie Scharnus who picked up 11 assists later in the match.
The Mids racked up 53 kills to the Leopards' 33 while Lafayette held a slight advantage in digs with 50 to Navy's 48.
Navy (10-14, 6-7) travels to Philadelphia on Tuesday to take on Drexel at 7 p.m.
Lafayette (0-29, 0-13) hosts Iona for its season closer on Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
