Lafayette Volleyball Falls to Iona

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team fell to non-conference opponent Iona tonight at Kirby Sports Center in straight games, 3-0. The Gaels improved to 12-13 as they defeated the Leopards 30-20, 30-26 and 31-29.

Lafayette was led by sophomore Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) who tallied 10 kills while freshman Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) knocked down eight on the night.

Defensively, co-captain Sarah Deitsch (Norwood, N.J./Old Tappan) led with 11 digs followed by freshman Lori DeVito (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) with 10.

Freshman setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Height, Ill./Buffalo Grove) passed for 17 assists on the night to bring her season total to 578.

Iona was led by junior Kathy Kunath who racked up 15 kills and 10 digs. Setters Jennifer Hovan and Emily Mansur dished out 17 and 12 assists, respectively.

The Gaels return home to host Sacred Heart and Vermont in their regular season finale on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Lafayette travels to Bethlehem to take on Patriot League rival Lehigh tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
