Leopards Fight to 1-1 Tie Versus Lehigh

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - In an epic battle fitting of the historic rivalry, the Lafayette men's soccer team fought to a 1-1 tie with Lehigh tonight at Metzgar fields.

The Leopards opened the scoring in the first fifteen minutes when senior co-captain Keith Evans (La Plata, Md./La Plata) sent in a cross from the left side of the field to find to the head of Marko Lukin (Boonton, N.J./Morris Catholic) who netted his first goal of the year.

Lehigh fought back to tie the game 1-1 when Colin Marshall tallied his third goal of the year off a direct kick at the top of the 18-yard box.

Despite several scoring opportunities by both teams, the game headed into overtime for the third time in the last four meetings between the two rivals.

Lafayette's best scoring chance came off a diving header by Paulo Coelho (Whippany, N.Y./Whippany Park) in the final seconds of the second overtime, but the shot went inches wide of the right post.

The Leopards outshot Lehigh 10-5 and had eight corner kicks to the Mountain Hawks' three, but couldn't find the back of the net as they completed their fifth tie of the season.

Seniors Evans, Mike Saioni (Cold Spring, N.J./Wildwood Catholic), Mike Milberger (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains) and Matt Hoffman (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) were honored before the game for thier contributions to the program that included two Patriot League Tournament championships and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in the past four years.

Lafayette closes the season at 8-4-5 while Lehigh ends the regular season at 11-5-1.
