Lafayette Fencing Earns First Win of the Season

www.lafayette.edu - Leading the way for the Leopards was junior Corey Garner (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) in the Lafayette fencing team's win versus Hunter College in the tri-meet held at Haverford College on Sunday. The Leopards lost their other two matches versus Haverford and Yeshiva, scoring 0-9 and 1-8, respectively.

Garner went 7-2 for the day versus his opponents in the sabre, helping lead the team to their first win of the season. He posted an undefeated score versus Hunter in all of his bouts, while recording only one loss apiece versus Haverford and Yeshiva.

Posting victories throughout the day were freshman Mike McFadden (Lansdowne, Del./Monstgnor Benner) in the foil, Tom Gaunter (Allentown, Pa./Central Catholic) in the sabre, and Bri Henderek (Estes Park. Col./Estes Park) in the epee.

The biggest weakness for Lafayette came in the foil competition, posting a record of 6-21 for the day.
