Leopard Golfers Finish 11th At Hofstra Invitational

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette golf team shot a two-day total of 656 to finish in 11th place at the 2001 Hofstra Invitational, which was held at the par-72, 6,927-yard Harbor Links Golf Course. Towson won the team title for the second straight season, carding a 305-300--605 for a six shot victory over Fordham.

Individually, senior co-captain Frank Fazzinga led the Leopards with an 80-81--161 to tie for 28th place. Also recording top-50 finishes for Lafayette were freshmen Derek Downing (T37th, 80-83--163), Jonathan Cohn (40th, 80-84--164) and John Semiz (44th, 84-84--168).

The individual championship went to Fordham's Tim Moynihan, who shot a 75 today to finish in a first-place tie with Quinnipiac's Mike Mahan at 146. Moynihan topped Mahan for the title on the first playoff hole, the par five first hole, by shooting par to Mahan's bogey.

Lafayette is scheduled to host a quad match next Tuesday, April 17, at Northampton Country Club before competing in the Patriot League Championships at Navy April 21-22.
