EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's tennis team finished their regular season in convincing fashion, notching a 7-0 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) in a non-conference match at Sullivan Courts on Thursday.
H'Cone Thompson (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) notched a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jason Duval in No. 1 singles action, the only match in which a Terrier managed more than two points all afternoon. Co-captain Dan Seward (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) picked up a win in No. 2 singles over Chad Davis, 6-1, 6-2, while teammate Ryan Collins (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Terrance Chariandy in No. 3 singles to improve to 15-4 on the year.
Also picking up wins for the Leopards (8-7) in singles action were co-captain Mike Levey (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville) in flight four, Mike Durette (Avon, Conn./Suffield Academy) in flight five and Devin Murphy (Buxton, Md./Boys Latin School) in flight six competition.
Lafayette swept the Terriers (0-10) in the doubles flights as well, with Thompson and Seward winning 8-2 over Duval and Davis in flight one, while the pairings of Collins and Durette in flight two and Levey and Murphy in flight three blanked their opposition, 8-0.
Lafayette heads to Colgate for the Patriot League Championships this weekend, April 21-22, in Hamilton, N.Y. The team's first round matchup will be determined on Friday at the league coaches' meeting. The Leopards are 0-2 in conference play this season.
