Lafayette Softball Falls To Bucknell, 2-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu - After winning the first game of its doubleheader at Bucknell, 6-3, on Saturday, the Lafayette softball team dropped the second game, 2-1, to finish 1-3 in the Patriot League weekend series.

Bucknell (16-21-2, 8-8 PL) made its mark on the scoreboard first getting a run in the first inning off an RBI groundout to first base by Charity Ford to score Meredith Gill who tripled to start the Bison's offense.

The Bison would add to their lead in the fourth as Erin Doyle singled up the middle to drive in Kelly Dugan for a 2-0 lead.

Lafayette (8-29, 4-12 PL) got its lone run of the game with two outs in the sixth inning as Kelly Wise (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) doubled to drive in Becky Chmielowski (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood), who had doubled to reach base herself.

Brandi Porter picked up the win for Bucknell, allowing just one run on seven hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Freshman Mollie Moschberger (Fairhaven, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) pitched six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.

The Leopards wrap up their regular season next weekend with consecutive doubleheaders at rival Lehigh on April 28 & 29.
