2001 Lafayette Football Schedule Announced

April 27, 2001

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's first night game in nine seasons and five quality home contests, including the Family Day game against Pennsylvania on Sept. 22 and the Homecoming contest vs. Colgate on Oct. 27, highlight the 2001 Leopards' football schedule. The Leopards open the season with a Patriot League contest at Towson on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.

"It's a very challenging schedule for the 2001 season," said Frank Tavani, who enters his second season as Lafayette's head football coach. "In addition to the highly-competitive Patriot League slate, we will face four Ivy League opponents in Princeton, Pennsylvania, Columbia, and Harvard. We are looking forward to the many challenges that lie ahead."

After facing Towson in the season and Patriot League opener, Lafayette travels to Princeton for a 7 p.m. kickoff. It will be the Leopards' first night game since the 1993 season when Lafayette played at Buffalo in a 7 p.m. start and returned with a 29-15 victory.

Lafayette's home opener with the Quakers of Pennsylvania is scheduled for Family Weekend on September 22. After travelling to Boston to face Harvard, the Leopards will host Columbia in a Youth Day contest on Oct. 6, and then resume Patriot League action when Bucknell visits Fisher Field on Oct. 13. The following week is a road trip to Worcester, Mass., to face conference rival Holy Cross.

The Leopards conclude the month of October by hosting Colgate in Lafayette's Homecoming Day contest and then begin the month of November with Fordham at Fisher Field in a Community Day game that concludes the 2001 home slate.

Finishing off the Leopards' 2001 regular season schedule are games at Patriot League newcomer Georgetown on Nov. 10, and the 137th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry at Lehigh on Nov. 17.

Lafayette concluded the 2000 season with a 2-9 overall record, and 1-5 and sixth place in Patriot League play. The Leopards return 13 starters and 39 letterwinners.
