BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's softball team wrapped up its season by dropping a doubleheader at Lehigh on Sunday, 10-1 and 9-2.
The Leopards (8-33, 4-16) managed one run in the fifth inning of the first game before it was called on the eight-run rule.
Lehigh (31-11, 18-2) got three runs in the first, second and fourth innings, broken up by a one-run third inning for the win against its rival. Rightfielder Shana Treon went 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Mountain Hawks while teammates Bonnie Hoffman and Davon Ortega each went 2-for-3.
Kelly Wise (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) was 1-for-2 as she scored the Leopards' only run of the game with a home run to centerfield in the fifth.
Lafayette opened the second game of the doubleheader with a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Liz Lucisano (Levittown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) RBI single to score Mara Shainheit (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley).
The Mountain Hawks, however, added a one-run second inning to tie the game and added eight of its nine runs over the following three innings before the Leopards got a solo home run by Wise in the top of the sixth for their final score of the game.
Jenny Bender pitched four innings for Lehigh, allowing four hits and one run while also going 2-for-4 with a RBI at the plate.
The Leopards finish their season with an overall record of 8-33 and a Patriot League mark of 4-16.
